ISSUES OF A CERTAIN AGE
March 30, 2012

Now, you most certainly expect me to tell you how marvelous my weekend was at the seaside, how I enjoyed the sun and had a lavishly picnic but no, no, I'm not gonna do that, because:

1. it's nothing out of the ordinary and everybody enjoys spring in this kind of manner.

2. I'm a smart ass " "

Therefore, today we will speak about a more important matter  - what happens to your hair when at the seaside!

Now, if I think closely I can sum everything in a few simple words/one phrase - "It looks like crap. "
And no matter how hard you'll try to calm it down, it will still arrange itself  like crap. Crap and hair are soul mates when it comes to sea air.

I was in a youthful company and a lady my age has to look properly arranged (although frankly, those younger women are so much more sophisticated than I was when I was their age) that's why my search for the perfect tool (again, after a certain age mother nature is just not enough, the drama!!!).

Cami, who's the hairstylist around here once told me that the only tool my hair needs to stay in place in emergency situations like this is the hairdryer. Now, because I'm a total idiot when it comes to beauty stuff my hairdryer is or better yet was a stupid little toy-the dryer that I had since ages (many, many ages, from the time when mother nature was treating me gently too!).

Was because I found it! The Holy Grail of hairdryers was just right under my nose and I, like a completely stupid leprechaun, missed it.  Remember last year when I've found that amazing ghd website ?

Just like "form zero to hero" I did the same with my used for ages, little hairdryer and gone to "Best Style Gadget of the year" and "Best Hair Styler" for the 8th year in a row at the "InStyle Beauty Awards" with Katy Perry as ambassador ( find it here).

So now, the next time I'll visit the seaside I can intoxicate you guys with mushy stories about how amazing the sea, the sun, the sand and my friends are and all the cliche stories you read all around the internet.

That's it.

 Au Revoir, Goodbye, Arrivederci.

ahh, I forgot to tell you what I've actually done at the seaside but I'll leave that for next week.
btw, I'm just 27, it's ok, I was like always just drama queening and making fun of myself.

I've read somewere that vanity is by far the most spread disease of the 21st century. When you have people around you that encourage this kind of attitude your chances of ever being a counterpoised person are becoming equal to zero.

I'm sure you all remember when The Place first opened. How we all wanted to buy something from this concept store, even a little lighter or a post card, because it would certificate us as being hipsters (stop with the negative quotation of the word). Through the years, The Place  remained the concept store where you can find the coolest magazines, the highest Louboutins and the most structural dresses. Posing in their windows was one of the most awesome guilty pleasures I've had lately.

This whole concept was Ioana and Claudiu's idea. We are all familiar with their blog - mauVErt.com as a fashion journalism blog that brings us the most fresh, controversial and accurate fashion news. Since I suffer from the already mentioned above disease, I was ecstatic when they proposed this to me. It took them 14 minutes (on the clock)  to built the concept and the outfit around this idea. I wish I were so creative and spontaneous...

You can see Claudiu's reflection in the windows. He forgot his Lagerfeld costume at home though...

So, posing in The Place's window, checked, moving on to the next phase of my "things to do before I move to NY list"

 Thank you Noemi!

All of you smitten kittens who waste your time clicking on High Street Cardigans daily have noticed  by now that I'm in a black period. No, nobody died, my boyfriend is still calling me and I'm not depressed. Also, be relaxed, despite of what some people may say, my heart is not black and I'm not a witch (always dreamed of being one though). Also nr. 2, please don't start with the negative energy topic. Now, with this being cleared out, I humbly thank you for your concern and no, mum, no, I'm not in a satanic cult either.

To answer all of your questions on this topic - I always was more of a nude tones person than of a all my wardrobe on me one. I love Carine more than Anna.

I'm finally in my apartment, a little shocked.

"Why is she back? She was supposed to never come back. I wonder if the others found out..."
These sort of questions were mingling through my mind when the bell ringed.

Eva stormed right in.

"I found out who she is!!! Goood, why is she back? What does she want now? After all this time...You know what this means right? "

And then, suddenly I knew, I remembered everything I worked so hard to forget was right there in front of my eyes, the people, the series of events, the images, their clothes, the shocked faces, the "press version" of the story we all gave after..."

Eva was preparing some cocktails in the kitchen and I was getting all my jewelry out for her to pick one for the event she has to attend tonight. Meanwhile, in the other part of the city, Robyn was waking up. It has been two days of constant partying and his pictures are all around of the news papers meaning that his grandmother will cut him of the funds this month. But it did not matter to him, she is back in town and tomorrow at the tea party everything will begin again. Just like the old times...

Well, if you are number 33 send me an email and you will receive your Snobbish Breakfast dress right in time for the party.  Felicitaciones kitten!

It's either you have it or you don't.

No, I'm not talking about style  but about common sense.

Have a "I'm doing this for me" weekend not a "It would look good on Facebook" one. Also, don't forget that today is your last change to win the Snobbish Breakfast dress.

A few weeks ago Laura whatsuped me (yep, no phones, no facebook, no mails anymore) with a cool proposition. She asked me to be the first one from a bunch of creative people who will design a piece of furniture for her Our Design personalized furniture label.

After a few brainstorming meetings and lots of rescheduling (at one point I sincerely believed that she will murder me) we picked a stool and decorated it with a few "words of wisdom" and social sayings that nowadays can be read everywhere.

Below you can see a few takes from the making of process.

Here are a few things to know about Our Design:

"Triggered by a young spirit, Our Design is a Romanian furniture producer with a fresh business receipt: Besides from producing our own furniture design, we aim to sign as many collaborations with Romanian fashion and lifestyle personalities and create unique furniture pieces. In this way, our product portfolio will contain objects with more personality that meet a wide variety of style and design requirements.
We create and produce armchairs, dinning chairs, sofas, stools, small furniture and not only, as we are always searching for new products to meet our clients desires."

This collaborations was an honor for me because Laura is such an amazing, inspiring young lady who had the patience and the strong nerves to put up with my grumpy attitude and my constant rescheduling (yes, I know, I've mentioned this before). Also, Nur, thank you for allowing us to destroy your home.

As such, you can buy or order The Socially Connected Stool at laura@ourdesign.ro.

Also, don't forget to LIKE Our Design's Facebook Page so that you can stay connected with all the new stuff they are going to create.

There are just some days when everything goes wrong. When you spill the coffee on your white dress on the way to 'the' important meeting or when your phone runs out of battery while you are stuck in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire.

Well, this was not one of those days at all. This was my first perfect, spring-ish day. I was just getting out from Market 8, a restaurant near my office when a messenger approached me.

"I have something to give you!"

".......mmmyesss?...?!? "

"Your assistant told me that I might find you here, this is for you."

He gave me a beige envelope with a golden emblazon on it. Beneath it, written with the same golden carving, was my name.

The guy leaves, my phone starts ringing and I frantically start looking  for my car keys in my "i never find any shit in it" bag. Got in and without even opening it, I put the envelope on the back seat along with some books and magazines I bought earlier that day. Finally, arriving at my office I started preparing the outfits for my next client, my phone starts ringing again. It's Eva.

"Did you get one too?"

"One what?"

"An invitation you idiot!"

"Aaa, no, I don't know, to what? Which one it is that you are reffering to?"

"Ana? Is that you? What do you mean which one?
THE ONE TO THE TEA PARTY!!!
Who throws tea parties nowadays?!?
Do you know who she is?
I'm blown away. I hope you will dress properly this time!"

And with that she hung up leaving me stupidly looking at my Saddo painting wondering about what in the world she is talking about.

"Hello darling,
Do you have my skirts?"

Mona is my client for a year now and she still calls me "darling". Mona, if you read this, I saw you naked and drunk. It's ok, stop formalizing.
Anyways, Mona is the cool-est client ever. She knows good gossip, dates younger men and wears Proenza . She's a character. She lives in London and visits Romania at every three months, that's why we are Skype pals most of the time but when we meet, well, let's say we do more than personalized shopping.

It's 7 pm and I'm driving home with a stupid smile on my face. I've found my Ipad ( under a pile of vintage blouses) andddd tonight I'm so gonna meet with one of the best sex partners I've ever had. Yep, this was definitely a good day. And the icing on the cake is that I have even found a free spot in my parking lot. Ha!

While getting my shit out of the car, again, I see the beige envelope beside the books. Hmmm, I wonder to whom this blazon belongs to...

I open it and the card reeds:

"Dear Mrs. Morodan,

You are expected and welcomed to attend the spring tea party
organized at ... the place, hour of arriving, dress code and so on

 Signed:

And then I saw the name and instantly froze.

It's going to be a  very autumnal spring...

TO BE CONTINUED...

Don't forget about the Snobbish Breakfast dress you can win. After all, we have a Tea Party to attend to.

No, I'm never leaving my phone out of sight.  Now, with this cleared out let's see what we have on the daily agenda...

Ah, yes, today, dear class, we will speak about the "love topic" ( to be read with a Russian accent).

No, not the love you feel for your the ones close to your heart, we'll leave that topic to others more evolved than us, we are going to speak about the love we feel for things!

It's a fact, I love things - I'm a jewelry whore, I own 84 skirts and I daily feel the urge to admire them, I adore my house and it's a constant work in progress cause everyday I find new decoration objects that I can't resist to buy (it's a disease). So, with this being a constant reality of my life, I started thinking...

Why do we love and get attached to the things we own? Further more, why is this considered shallowness  by the egg headed crowds ?

From my point of view, labeling people as shallow or frivolous based only on the fact that they are fashion lovers or "things" lovers is the real shallowness.

Well, since I'm not a psychologist, I cannot speak in your name but here's a conclusion based on my own experience, I love things because they don't have the means to disappoint me (except for you, little Tom Binns bracelet, when you broke my heard broke too) and as a person who appreciates beauty and has some little aesthetic sense, I like to surround myself with beautiful objects.

After all, it's a natural result of the evolution process of a capitalist society. I for one, I love eating from Villeroy and Boch china not from a plastic plate. And making a virtue out of the fact that you don't it only reveals bitterness not intellectualism. So does vice versa (a Baccarat glass at the end of the day is just a glass not a Delacroix painting, don't hyperventilate if  it breaks for God's sake). It should be a matter of moderation both ways.

Do you think Eliade spent his days in a poor attic floor by choice or by force?

I rest my case.

I hope you've seen by now the latest issue of Cockaigne.

This number is dedicated to mystery stories and the horror genre along with many interesting facts like the correspondence between Danielle Steel and Stephen King (I never heard of it before, Rose Red was the closest I ever got to any kind of horror movie and I was born in the Weisberger chick lit era, hmmm, I have to read something Danielle wrote though...yep, I'm a chick lit fan, crucify me!)

So click, click, click, kittens.

Oh, and if you are wondering (like I stupidly did for 7 minutes, I'm slow) the person from the cover is a guy. This being cleared out now I wonder who is it? Hmm

Also, don't forget to enter and win the Snobbish Breakfast dress!

Hasta Luego.

Well, we pulled it through in the end and we manage to finish the Snobbish Breakfast spring lookbook right on time.

Yes,yes, I can hear your thoughts, right on time for Adina's wish to come true. Yep, she's all about numbers and energies lately so she wanted this lookbook to be ready in the same day it was last year when we partnered. With this in mind, she began the offensive... I started using headphones because of her.

So that you know(Adina), I cannot work under maximum stress b**ch (mommy loves you!) and you need a prescription for Xanax nowadays, life's hard!

As always, Glamography guys ruled, Delia and Meg were beyond words and Dana's make-up always makes me want to learn how to do it (did you notice by now that I have only a way of doing that, the only way I know, as a matter of fact!)

Let me ask you something...

But before asking you the big question, let me ask you a smaller one.

Do you have people whom you admire?  I'm not talking about the dead ones ok? Stop thinking at Picasso, Dali, Freud, Marx or Diana Vreeland. Nor the internationally known people.

I'm talking about the people near you, someone who you secretly admire, like your work colleague who always dresses stylish, your best friend, cause she always has the smart answer for anything and she manages to stay out of trouble, your gym partner who always gets the best catches.

Most of you will not find an answer instantly.

?

Let me tell you why (yes, yes, I'm the smartest), because we often tend to envy the people near us rather than to admire them. We think that it's degrading to tell someone close to us that we admire him/her, what if they will consider us weak or worst case scenario, it will make us look uncool.

Now, my question for you is  How many people around you do you envy?

Ok, I'm gonna stop being the wise midget around. I wore a  lady like outfit for God sake, swearing is out of the question today.

Now, moving along from the brainiac department to the cool stuff around. Molecule F developed a new addictive project - Chic Tech Fashion Blog presented by Intel.
